Memo to:      USCA Officers & Directors
From:           Jim Engel
Subject:        Ongoing Issues
Date:            Aug 14, 2010

After many years of avoidance the time has come to address
two primary and interrelated issues deeply crucial to the future
of the USCA.

The first is the archaic way in which we run our business in
this computer and data base age, as discussed here:

../usca/USCA_Business.htm

The second issue is the out of control spending on programs
such as the registry,  created in emulation of SV programs which
in many ways are themselves ineffective as discussed here:

../usca/USCA_Registry.htm

These issues are coming to a head because of the proposed
huge dues increase necessary to sustain this way of operating.
The problem is that such a large increase is likely to be self
defeating, fall far short in revenue generation because members
will hesitate and ask themselves if it is really worth it when
facing that $100 check, and in all to many cases fall away.

We also need to reevaluate our conformation show system,
where the performance of the dogs in the preliminary working
test, and especially the reports of the behavior of the Siger
at the last show, are
bad public relations for the German
Shepherd dog and the working dog movement.

In my next memo I will discuss some of the consequences
of continued avoidance of these issues and the changes that
could help to resolve these situations.

Ladies and gentlemen, USCA is on the wrong path in several
ways, and you need to recognize this and take effective
action while there is still time.
